Sekanjabin is an non-alcoholic herbal punch that has been used for centuries in the Middle and Near East. It can be likened to a medeival "Gatorade(tm)". We sell two flavors: peppermint and lemon balm.
Sekanjabin syrup is a shelf-stable concentrate which is diluted before serving. In the summer, it is served ice cold and is full of electrolytes which help you stay on your feet in blistering heat. In the winter, it can be served hot like a mulled cider and is excelent for sore throats.
This season, we are selling two flavors of sekanjabin, lemon balm and peppermint. The lemon balm is smooth and citrusy. The peppermint has just a bit of kick.
To serve sekanjabin, dilute it with four or more parts water, so a bottle of syrup goes a long way. To serve hot, add a dollup to a mug of hot water. The sekanjabin syrup has also been traditionally used as a salad dressing or in marinades.
If you want to try your hand at making your own, our recipe is in our online reference, Pages From an Ozark Herbal.
However you use your sekanjabin, you are taking part in a tradition which may go back to biblical times. Enjoy.
