We sell pillar candles and hand-dipped tapers in an assortment of shapes and sizes, up to 4"x24" for single wicked candles or 8"x6" for multi-wicked candles (yes, that's 4 inches wide by two feet tall!). We have several types of wax available. Most of our candles are made from palm wax or beeswax. We do not sell soy wax container candles; in general, we prefer solid, self-supporting candles. Most of our candles are lightly scented so as not to trigger allergies or sensitivities.
Palm Wax
Palm wax is a 100% vegetable wax made from palm trees. Palm wax candles have a unique, crystalline finish. They burn slow and smokeless like bee's wax. Palm wax is used to make pillar candles.
Beeswax
Beeswax is wax from the honeycomb. It burns slowly and smoke free with the scent of honey. Beeswax candles range from nearly white to a dark tan in color and are rarely died. Roughly half of our current supply of beeswax comes from local Missouri beekeepers. We hope to reach 100% in the near future.
Bayberry Wax
Bayberry wax comes from the berries of the bayberry or wax myrtle bush. The wax has a heavy, pleasant scent. Bayberry wax is expensive since a small candle requires over 1 quart of berries, however, it is a traditional holiday candle. We stock bayberry and bayberry/beeswax candles for the holidays.
Tallow
Tallow is one of the oldest sources of candles. It is made from rendered suet and burns very brightly. Tallow was often mixed with beeswax to make the beeswax burn brighter, and we will sometimes offer mixed wax candles for the same reason.
Paraffin
Paraffin, often simply referred to as "wax" is made from petroleum distillates and is a non-renewable resource. We will sometimes use paraffin to achieve a particular artistic effect, such as crackled surfaces, but we prefer working with palm wax.
