We sell handcrafted housewares, including handmade lye soaps, candles, fiber products (raw wool, spun wool, woven, knit, felted goods and quilts), wicking, crafting tools and supplies (drop spindles, learn-to-spin-kits, orifice hooks, etc.), historical costume (e.g. Elizabethan ball gowns and wedding dresses), botanical sketches, and caligraphy. Because we produce so many different kinds of products, we do not have all items stocked at any one time. Many items are seasonal. We have photos of items we have done, and always accept custom orders, including custom sewing and tailoring. The backbone of our stock-in-hand is soaps, candles, and woolens.
Lye Soap
Our soap is handmade. We seldom do any melt-and-pour soap and, if we do, it is clearly marked. Instead, we make from-scratch lye soap, from the traditional strips-everything-off-including-poison-ivy soap to the gentle french-milled soap that we sell to folks with sensitive skin and allergies. We have a steady stock of handmade soap with no colors, fragrances, or additives of any kind. Our soap is priced by the ounce. We will sell bulk first run soap (>8 lbs) at a discount either for direct use, or as melt-and-poor and french milling stock for your own creations. Custom french-milled soap in greater than four pound orders is also discounted.
Candles Our candles include pillar candles, dipped tapers, and medieval-style poured candle-sticks (sold by the inch). The candle-sticks are often used for creating flambeaux, a medieval gentleman's torch, perfect for lawn lighting or bright interior light. We prefer natural materials for our candles: beeswax, palm wax, beeswax/tallow blends. Natural candle waxes reduce dependency on petroleum products, tend to burn cleaner, and longer. We make paraffin candles in small amounts. We also sell wicking on an irregular basis, including medieval-style hemp wicking and hand woven lamp wicking.
Fiber: Wool, Quilts and Throws, Clothing
We sell many pure wool products, including raw wool from our angora rabbits, spun wool from our own animals and other farms, and woven/knit goods such as sweaters, throws, scarves, etc. We will clean and spin your raw wool on trade
We make quilts both for stock and custom orders. We frequently donate quilts to relief efforts for the needy.
We also create historic costume for period re-enactments or as modern formal wear. Many people wear our ball gowns for weddings or proms. Traditional creations include rennaisance gowns, medieval formal wear, moccasins and hats, and other items from 600 CE up to the present. If required (for a gift for instance), we can provide historical documentation for the design of your piece.
Crafting Tools and Supplies Besides crafting ourselves, we also make items of interest to crafters for their own projects, such as drop spindles and learn-to-spin kits, weaving tools such as shuttles and swords, fiber tools like wool combs, wood finishing wax, hand-woven strapping (inkle loom) for bags, belts, and purses, and even the occassional 7' upright blanket loom. These items are stocked on a catch-as-catch can basis: we often create them for ourselves and simply make extra to sell at the same time. If you are interested in something special, though, you can always ask.
