Purveyors of Fine Handcrafted Soaps, Candles, Textiles, and Other Housewares

We raise angora rabbits for wool, spin wool from local ranches, weave, knit, and felt fiber goods, make lye soap from scratch, candles including historical recreations, and sew historical costumes. We frequently take commissions and custom orders for candles, soaps, textiles, historical costume, and custom tailoring. Each piece is traditional, functional, and a unique work of art.

Missouri Charter: X00910015

The Misty Manor, Mercers, is a traditional handcrafting business owned and operated in Missouri. The Misty Manor emulates a medieval manor-based mercantile company, crafting products both to support its own family and operation and for regional sale. Every product is hand crafted by a member of the family or one of a small number of local farmers.Dipping Tapers (sketch)

We believe that it is important to preserve the skills that our grandparents and great-grandparents needed to survive before they become lost.  We are happy to teach these skills locally, participate in area 'craft nights' with a historical society, publish regular articles, and teach occasional classes, including area 'weed walks'. We are part of efforts to revitalize and expand local farmer's markets and cottage industry.

We sell items at several local farmers' markets, primarily Sarcoxie and Webb City(*). Given the variety of crafts we are skilled in, it is impossible for us to stock all of the items we can make. Please ask us if you like something that is out of stock, want something similar to what we have made in the past, or want to order items in quantity.

As a homesteading organization, we support the rights of landowners and small farmers, local cottage industry, sustainable living, and strong communities. Community and individualism built America; freedom maintains it.

(*) We will not be at the Mount Vernon for the foreseeable future; it has gotten too expensive and the rules too complex for too little traffic. We have started selling at the Sarcoxie farmers' market on Saturdays and will be there most Saturdays until the end of this season. We took a brief hiatus from the Webb City Market to get the new farm straightened away and will be selling there again in 2009 and may show up for a couple of days yet this season. In the meantime, we will still be selling online, going to special events (see our calendar ), and taking custom orders as usual.
