We will process and spin wool on trade. Our standard terms are that we spin the wool in exchange for from 1/2 to 3/4 the raw wool by weight. That means that we clean, card, spin (by hand), and wash the wool. The exact amount we require depends on the quality and condition of the wool. High quality, clean wool will be closer to 1/2 while lower quality or very dirty wool will be closer to 3/4. Note that the spun yarn will weigh less than the raw wool because of loss in the cleaning and combing process.
We can spin woolens, worsted, and semi-worsted wools. Note that worsted wools require a high quality raw wool with a long staple (fiber length).
Woolens
Relatively thick, fluffy yarn spun from carded wool. Woolens are thicker and warmer than worsteds but are not as strong and do not wear as well. Woolens are good for knitting and for weft thread in woven materials.
Worsted
Worsted wools are fine, strong fibers made from combed wool. Worsteds are not as warm as woolens but are stronger and wear well. Most wool dress fabrics are made from worsted wools, and worsteds are good for fine crochet and warp thread in woven fabrics.
Semi-Worsteds
Are spun in a worsted fashion from carded wool. They are not as fine as true worsteds but still wear well and are warmer.
